About us

Lloyds of Kew Books is a second hand bookshop, specialising in botany, horticulture, botanical art, photography, biography, history and reference. As well as a large section of art books, travel writing, poetry, music and literature, there is also a good selection of children's fiction, ranging in age group from 8 – teen.

The shop was established 1973 by renowned local Book Dealer and Botany and Horticulture specialist, Daniel Lloyd. It has been an important feature of the London Book Trade ever for over 40 years, and situated only yards from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, the shop still stocks an extensive range of general gardening, horticultural and botanical books. The shop is the epitome of the quintessential second hand bookshop – lined with floor to ceiling wooden bookshelves and with an original Victorian shop front.

As an independent bookshop, Lloyds of Kew's main purpose is to preserve the whole concept of browsing books in a real bookshop where you can touch and experience the books and discover things you might not otherwise have come across.

As well as a range of second hand books including rare, vintage, antiquarian and modern books across variety of categories, Lloyds of Kew also stocks a range of carefully chosen fine art cards, gift items and wrapping materials, to compliment the original select feel of the books.

A unique feature of the shop is the “Book tree" in the back room; a bookshelf made of pine, commissioned by previous owner Ulrike Bulle, and designed and constructed by Tim Vincent-Smith. The bookshelf now hosts a range of children's books, including a selection of vintage books.
